How long must I wait to avoid a softban?

Short Answer: Cooldown time depends on the distance between actions, starting when you take a location-marking action.

Cooldown is something implemented by Niantic. No spoofer can bypass cooldown. Pokemon GO cooldown refers to the period you need to wait before you do the next action after you complete a certain operation in the game. The cooldown length depends on many factors, such as your behavior and moving distance. Still, in general, the farther you move, the longer it will be.

If you have not done any of the triggering actions listed below within the last two hours, you can teleport and continue to play like normal.

Detailed Cooldown Chart:

  • 0-1 km: No cooldown required
  • 1-5 km: 1-2 minutes
  • 5-10 km: 2-6 minutes
  • 25-30 km: 8-11 minutes
  • 65-80 km: 19-22 minutes
  • 100+ km: 35+ minutes
  • 500+ km: 1 hour
  • 1000+ km: 2 hours
  • Opposite side of Earth: 2 hours maximum

Actions that WILL CAUSE COOLDOWN:

  • Catching a wild Pokémon, Incense, Lure Module or Meltan Box, Team Rocket or Raid Boss Pokémon (includes Gotcha or Go Plus/Virtual Go Plus)
  • Dropping/throwing a ball anywhere on the catch screen
  • Feeding a berry to a Pokémon
  • Spinning a PokéStop or a Gym (receiving the “try again” or “inventory is full” message still counts)
  • Battling a Pokémon in a Gym
  • Placing a Pokémon as a Defender in a Gym

Actions that WILL NOT CAUSE COOLDOWN:

  • Teleporting/spoofing in general — you can teleport as much as you want as long as you don’t do any of the actions that trigger cooldown
  • Tapping on a Pokémon without doing anything afterwards
  • Hatching an egg
  • Evolving or powering up a Pokémon
  • Using an item on a Pokémon
  • Receiving rewards from a Research Task (catching a Pokémon from Research also does not cause cooldown)
  • Taking AR photos of a Pokémon
  • Catching a Pokémon encountered from a photobomb
  • Completing a Raid and not capturing the Raid Boss
  • Trading a Pokémon
  • Sending or receiving gifts
  • Adding a Lure Module to a PokéStop
  • Feeding a berry to a Pokémon in a Gym from a distance
  • Clicking on a Team Rocket invaded PokéStop
  • Battling a Team Rocket Grunt/Leader/Boss (as long as you don’t catch, it won’t cause cooldown)
